Eiermann Building Apolda

An extraordinary example of Modernism, a project of the International Building Exhibition (Internationale Bauausstellung, IBA) Thuringia, with plenty of space to work, exhibit, be productive - and a roof terrace for relaxing together: Welcome to the Open Factory in the Eiermann Building Apolda!
In 1938/39, the architect Egon Eiermann expanded a former textile factory to accommodate the Total AG Feuerlöschgerätewerke (Fire Extinguisher Factory). Production took place here until 1994, when it was abandoned for many years. In 2018, the IBA Thuringia moved in as the first user since then; it is developing the Eiermann building into an open factory together with the city of Apolda and the LEG (Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft, or Land Development Association) of Thuringia.
Whether cooking and eating, meeting and dancing, enjoying concert and theatre, or seeing and being seen - the high, column-free hall (420 sqm) with parquet flooring is located on the 3rd floor and accomodates up to 300 people. In addition, the Eiermann Building boasts a roof terrace with a magnificent view as well as generous, outdoor spaces in front of the building for product presentations and open-air events.
